3DDeSI – Overcoming Disabilities and Enforce Social Inclusion via 3D Printing

Istituto Comprensivo Ilaria Alpi, Sarzana (Italy)

The first pupils’ training activity took place between December 2023 and February 2024, involving 3 primary school classes: first class of Marinella, third class of San Lazzaro, fifth class of Nave.

The choice to involve 3 classes from 3 different schools was made because in the future it will have a direct impact on a good number of pupils (around 270).

In each of the 3 classes there is at least one child with special educational needs, and in addition to the curricular teachers, at least one support teacher.

After a general introduction to the 3D world,  teachers showed the use of 3 different 3D printers: XYZPRINTING da Vinci miniW+, Creality Ender 3 Max and Creality Endre 3 Pro.

According to the different ages and needs of the the three classes, three different curricula were developed: for the first grade alphabet and numbers, for the third grade design and printing of letters, and for the fifth grade a topic related to the local culture and history through lithophane (same technique used by the third grade).
